The noise abatement areas at airports to be defined in accordance with the German federal law on protection against aircraft noise (“Gesetz zum Schutz gegen Fluglärm”) must be reviewed regularly. This requires current forecasts of expected flight operations with a time horizon of generally 10 years in order to determine the expected future aircraft noise immissions.
For this purpose, Intraplan has prepared a new, fundamental air traffic forecast for Frankfurt Airport with regard to passengers, cargo and aircraft movements.
All forecast assumptions were derived from a comprehensive inventory of the current state of knowledge and coordinated with the airport’s specialist departments in a multi-stage coordination process structured by Intraplan. Lufthansa and DFS, as central partners in air traffic management, as well as representatives of the responsible ministry were involved in this process. The forecast assumptions defined in this way formed the central basis for subsequent input into the forecast models and detailed evaluation of their impact on developments at Frankfurt Airport.
The forecast results on traffic development expectations are incorporated into further processing steps to determine the expected future aircraft noise pollution.
The results presented to the Frankfurt Aircraft Noise Commission are available on its website:
