For many years, the town of Stein has been experiencing an increasing, very high volume of motorised individual traffic on the B14 through road. The city of Nuremberg, the town of Stein and the district of Fürth are the three local authorities involved in finding a solution.
In order to reduce the negative side effects, e.g. traffic jams, and thus improve the quality of life in the city of Stein, various studies and cost-benefit analyses have been carried out in recent decades for an extension of the underground line U2 from Röthenbach to Stein and for the B14 bypass, which runs partly through the city of Nuremberg.
One component in finding a solution is the Intermodal Transport Expertise, which Intraplan has now presented. In this report, the traffic effects of three scenarios with different measures in the road and public transport network were compared. The effects were determined using an intermodal transport model and compared using a new evaluation method developed for the study. The results of the study form the basis for upcoming decisions in the committees of the three regional authorities mentioned above.
