The initial situation
Introduction of the bwtarif season tickets: a time-critical and complex project
The development of the bwtarif, a season ticket tariff for all transport networks in Baden-Württemberg, was an extremely complex project from the very beginning:
- a large number of stakeholders, including 22 transport associations and 9 railway operators in addition to regional authorities and associations
- widely diverging interests,
- and a wide range of relevant effects on the existing tariff structure in Baden-Württemberg.
Due to the consistent involvement of all relevant stakeholders in a structured, graduated participation procedure and comprehensive technical and procedural support by Intraplan and civity, the bwtarif product portfolio was successfully introduced in stage 1. As part of Stage 2 of the bwtarif, it was decided in July 2018, among other things, to introduce cross-association season tickets on December 13, 2020. Here also, Intraplan and civity accompanied the entire process from the beginning in order to implement the introduction of season tickets within the extremely tight timescale.
The involvement of all relevant stakeholders in a structured, graduated participation process is urgently required for such complex projects.
The concrete task
Introduction of a season ticket tariff across all transport associations within 18 months, which is supported by all associations and transport companies in Baden-Württemberg and which improves the situation for existing customers.
Development of a sales database for analysis and calculation, development of a customised pricing algorithm for differentiated specifications and fine-tuning on the basis of a developed specific web solution with all parties involved.
The bwtarifPortal is a web-based communication platform developed by Intraplan, which is used on the one hand for the presentation and visualisation of tariff data and on the other hand for the implementation of the revenue sharing procedure. In addition to basic modules such as account management (including assignment of rights), the platform contains various options for communication and coordination (upload and download of data, feedback forms, ticket management).
Benefits of the results
Season tickets in the bwtarif are introduced in time for the new public transport timetable in December 2020.
