The initial situation
The expected traffic growth in public transport in the city of Frankfurt requires a capacity expansion also in the surface transportation systems.
Frankfurt am Main is a dynamically growing city in the heart of the Rhine-Main region. The associated growth in traffic will lead to a significant increase in the number of passengers using public transport. As today’s services are already often operating at their performance limits, capacities must also be expanded on the surface. In this context, the focus is on the tramway system, since the tramway has a high capacity compared to the bus. The capacity expansion can be achieved in different ways. Typically, through larger vehicles or by increasing the frequency of service.
Dynamically growing cities require new answers to traffic development.
